Insert replacement or full-frame replacement

There are two ways to replace a window. We pick one after checking the frame and the sill.

  • Inside the existing frame · faster and leaves the walls untouched, if the frame is sound.
  • Down to the rough opening · we remove the whole frame to inspect, insulate and redo the seal.
  • Enlarged opening · we add a header, and the city then requires a permit.
  • Foggy sealed unit only · if the frame holds up, replacing the glass unit may be enough.

Questions about window and door replacement

The price depends on size, material, glazing and installation. A PVC window set inside the existing frame costs less than a hybrid installed down to the structure. We price each opening in writing.

Several Montreal boroughs require one, even for a same-size replacement. Enlarging an opening or cutting concrete always does. We check your city's rules before we order.

PVC insulates well and costs the least. Hybrid adds aluminum cladding outside, which is stiffer and comes in more colours. Aluminum is mostly used for large glazed areas.

Triple glazing insulates better and blocks more noise, but it is heavier and costs more. It pays off mostly on the north side or in a bedroom on a busy street.

A window that opens from the inside without tools, with a clear opening of at least 0.35 m² and no side under 380 mm. The window well in front must leave enough room to get out.
