Top Spring Home Renovation and Repair Projects for 2013

With spring just around the corner, it is a great time to start planning for this years’ home renovation and clean-up projects. Below are some of the most popular spring projects in Canada that you might want to get started on. If you are handy around the house, you’ll be able to tackle most of these projects yourself. Other jobs like kitchen renovation will require professional help.

Kitchen
Our kitchens are a central meeting place for families. We spent quality time there. Why not liven it up for spring? Changing those cabinets, lighting and fan can bring an exciting facelift to this all important room. How about those decorative wall tiles you have been dreaming about?

Painting
Home painting is one of the most popular and least expensive home renovation projects, especially if you do it yourself. Rooms carefully painted in warm and neutral tones makes everything feel fresh and new. It is a wonderful way to welcome in the return of spring and warmer temperatures.

Gutters
Winter ice and snow buildup can put a severe strain on gutters. Make sure nothing is blocking gutters from draining water away from you house. Check them over for debris and cracks. Hopefully, you got around to looking them over last fall. Regular spring and fall inspections will reduce the possibility of serious gutter damage.

Roof
Now that you got out the ladder to check on the gutters, it is time to climb up on the roof. Look for cracked, peeling or missing shingles. If there are signs of leaking around vents or the chimney, don’t hesitate to get your house inspected by an expert in residential renovation.

Siding
Along with the gutters and the roof, you will want to check on the siding of your house. If you have wood siding, be on the lookout for peeling paint, cracks, and signs of dry rot. Vinyl sidings are vulnerable to strong winds. Make sure they are all in place.

Spring brings the promise of longer days and warmer temperatures. It is not too early to plan this year’s home renovation and repair projects. Don’t procrastinate. The season moves quickly and the better the weather the more likely you will be tempted to head outdoors for other activities.
